U.S. Marine Corps Silent Drill Platoon filming new TV commercial in Colorado Springs- Oct. 30th!
-
On Tuesday, October 30, the "America's Marines" initiative will film a
new advertising campaign and video documentary featuring the U.S. Marine
Corps Silent Drill Platoon (SDP) at the Garden of the Gods Visitor &
Nature Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The commercial shoot is
open to the public.
The SDP epitomizes the pride, honor, and discipline that define the
values of the Marine Corps. Within the SDP, thirty-two Marines in dress
blue uniforms are specially trained to execute complex movements with 10
and one-half pound, M-1 Garand rifles with fixed bayonets. The entire
platoon operates in perfect synchronization without vocal cadence of any
type. The SDP performs at the historic Marine Barracks in Washington
D.C. and in events across the United States and around the world.
The "America's Marines" initiative has already been filmed in San
Francisco; Nashville; Washington, D.C.; Philadelphia; New York; Rhode
Island; Sligo, Ky.; Scottsburg, Ind.; the Grand Canyon, Ariz. and the
Hoover Dam, Nev. The new TV commercial will be launched in early 2008.

Wednesday, Jan 10, 2007 –
On January 10th, the Rocky Mountain Chapter of the Women in Defense began its 2007 event series with a riveting presentation
from MAJ Alyssa Adams regarding her recent tour in Iraq. The talk focused on a woman’s perspective on shaping the legal,
enforcement and human rights issues in Iraq. Adams’ discussion included a slide presentation with photographs of her tour.
“I think I could have sat there all afternoon and listened to her experiences!” stated WID member Regina Anderson
of ManTech Space Systems. MAJ Adams presented her observations in an unbiased manner allowing the audience to
make their own conclusions. Overall, it was insightful and interesting for all in attendance.
Click here for pictures from the event.
MAJ Adams is the Brigade Judge Advocate, 3rd Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division.

The November 2006 Rocky Mountain WID event began with the organization’s annual meeting. The former Rocky Mountain Chapter
WID President, Sharon Hoffstetter discussed accomplishments throughout the year, recognized office chairs, participants
and volunteers that helped make the organization a success. She explained how in just two short years the
organization had grown from 2 members to over one hundred. Sharon then introduced the new president,
Jan Alton and new secretary, Angela Kornahrens. The organization’s treasurer, Sook Richardson, and vice president,
Mary Hoyt, will hold their respective seats for another year. Jan then provided the group with some
personal background and her goals for the coming year. She concluded by recognizing all of the organization’s
committee chairs. The meeting was followed by lunch and a speech from Brigadier General Anne Macdonald.
Brigadier General Macdonald began her speech discussing her dedication to the troops, deployments and
the importance of supporting their efforts. She requested that attendees consider participation in
the Citizen-Soldier program. The majority of her discussion focused on her experience at
West Point. She was one of the first women graduates from West Point and detailed this experience
noting the role culture played in this experience at the time. She stated that her experiences at
West Point contributed to the person she is today. She concluded her speech fielding questions from
the audience. She responded to an inquiry regarding the fact that both she and her husband were
Brigadier Generals in the US Army stating that she recognized the professional challenges for the
two of them and others in similar situations. Click here for a Bio on Brigadier General Macdonald.
